Signed a letter of intent to play college baseball at the University of Illinois before being drafted.

2017

Missed the season due to right foot and right ankle injuries ... Did not play in the spring due to a stress reaction in his right foot … opened the season on the 10-day disabled list (retro to 3/30) … was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on 4/22 ... Was diagnosed with a stress fracture of the navicular bone in his right ankle on 6/30 … was reinstated on 11/2 ... Played for Glendale in the Arizona Fall League, going 6-32 (.188) with two doubles, four RBI, seven walks and one steal.

2016

Spent most of the season with Class AAA Memphis in the St. Louis organization and appeared in one game with the White Sox before suffering a season-ending injury on 8/2.  Was acquired by the Sox from the Cardinals in exchange for left-handed pitcher Zach Duke on 7/31.  Was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte on 8/2 and made his major-league debut that night as the starting center fielder at Detroit … went 1-2, including his first major-league hit (single off Anibal Sanchez) before departing the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with a torn left hamstring injury suffered chasing down a fly ball.  Was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 8/3 and underwent season-ending surgery to repair the hamstring on 8/4.  Became the fifth Sox player to suffer an injury before or during his season debut, following OF Jason Coats, INF Matt Davidson, C Kevan Smith and OF Jason Coats.  Appeared in 100 games with Memphis … was tied for eighth in the Pacific Coast League with eight triples at the time of the trade … hit .380 (38-100) vs. left-handers.  Played in 65 games in center field and 35 in left.  Recorded a season-high four hits on 5/26 at Salt Lake and 7/14 at Albuquerque. 2015 SEASON
