Married Lucia … has one daughter: Leah.  Attended Los Angeles Mission College in Sylmar, Calif., where he earned his Associate's Degree in Arts in 2004.  Graduated in 2002 from San Fernando (Calif.) High School … competed against former National League Most Valuable Player and Rookie of the Year Ryan Braun in high school.  His family moved to the San Fernando Valley from Guadalajara, Mexico when he was four years old.

2016

Made 24 appearances (23 starts) with the White Sox after agreeing to terms on a minor-league contract on 4/3 … was released by Baltimore on 3/30.  Limited opponents to a career-low .380 slugging percentage and .686 OPS … made 15 quality starts and allowed one run or less 10 times.  Was 5-4 with a 3.79 ERA(26 ER/61.2 IP) at home, compared to 0-4 with a 3.68 ERA (30 ER/73.1 IP) on the road.  Lowered his ERA from 4.39 (34 ER/69.2 IP) over 13 games (12 starts) in the first half to 3.03 (22 ER/65.1 IP) in 11 starts after the break … posted a sub-3.00 ERA in July (2.50) and September (2.76).  Limited left-handers to a .237 average (62-262), compared to a .272 mark vs. right-handers (70-257).  His contract was purchased from Charlotte on 4/25 … made his White Sox debut as the starting pitcher that night at Toronto, receiving a no decision (5 ER/5.1 IP).  Was optioned back to Charlotte on 4/27 and recalled on 5/9 for the remainder of the season … went 1-1 with a 2.94 ERA (11 ER/33.2 IP) and 27 strikeouts over his first six starts after rejoining the club.  Received a no decision in his second start on 5/9 at Texas despite allowing just one run over 5.2 IP … retired 11 straight from the first-fifth inning.  Suffered his first loss on 5/21 vs. Kansas City (2 ER/6.0 IP) despite making his first quality start … received a no decision on 5/27 at Kansas City despite making his second straight quality start (3 ER/6.1 IP).  Made his only relief appearance of the season on 6/5 at Detroit, working 1.1 scoreless IP … earned his first win on 6/9 vs. Washington, allowing one run on three hits over 6.0 IP to snap Chicago's five-game losing streak.  Received his sixth no decision on 6/20 at Boston despite allowing just one run on four hits over 6.2 IP … Sox won, 3-2, in 10 innings on Jose Abreu's game-winning double.  Surrendered a career-high eight runs on 10 hits and three walks over 5.1 IP in a loss on 6/25 vs. Toronto.  Went 3-4 with a 2.70 ERA (20 ER/66.2 IP), .232 opponents average (59-254) and 1.05 WHIP over an 11-start stretch (10 quality) from 7/1-9/17.  Earned his second win on 7/6 vs. the Yankees after allowing just five hits (four singles) over 7.0 scoreless IP … it marked his longest scoreless outing since 5/2/15 at Tampa Bay (7.2 IP).  Received his second straight no decision on 7/24 vs. the Cubs despite allowing two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts over 6.2 IP … left with a 4-2 lead.  Surrendered just two runs (one earned) on six hits over 7.0 IP on 7/30 at Minnesota but received a no decision … the White Sox tied the game in the ninth inning on Melky Cabrera's RBI single and won it on Dioner Navarro's RBI double in the 10th. Worked just 1.0-plus IP on 8/11 at Kansas City before leaving the game in the second inning with a right groin strain … was placed on the disabled list on 8/12.  Made one rehab start with Charlotte before being reinstated from the disabled list on 9/6 … earned the win that night vs. Detroit after allowing just six hits with no walks and four strikeouts over 6.1 scoreless IP.  Worked a season-high 8.1 scoreless IP in a win on 9/28 vs. Tampa Bay … surrendered just three hits with no walks and five strikeouts … retired 16 of the first 17 batters and nine of the final 10 in the second-longest outing of his career (9.0-IP complete game on 9/3/14 vs. Cincinnati).  Opened the season with the Knights and made four starts … earned his only win on 4/17 vs. Durham (1 ER/6.0 IP).

Spent the majority of the season with the Orioles and posted the lowest ERA of his three-year career, allowing three earned runs or fewer in 23 of his 26 starts. Became the O's fourth starting pitcher to record 10 wins this season, the first time the O's accomplished the feat since 1997. Posted a 2.19 ERA (70.0IP, 17ER) in his final 11 starts of the season. Tossed his first career complete game shutout, September 3 vs. CIN (4H, season-high 8K). Posted six straight Quality Starts, August 7-September 13, the longest streak by an Oriole starter this season. Went 5-2 with a 2.78 ERA (71.1IP, 22ER) in 12 starts against the AL East. Pitched to a 1.82 ERA (29.2IP, 6ER) in four July starts. Placed on the 15-day DL on June 6 (retroactive to May 31), with a right oblique strain…Reinstated, June 17.
