MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins manager Ron Gardenhire successfully challenged a play at second base in the ninth inning of Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the White Sox in 10 innings.
Carlos Sanchez led off the ninth with a single off closer Glen Perkins and attempted to steal second base. He was ruled safe by second-base umpire Will Little, but Gardenhire challenged the play, as it appeared shortstop Eduardo Escobar was able to get the tag down in time.
After a review that lasted 27 seconds, the call on the field was overturned and Sanchez was ruled out on a stolen-base attempt.
Gardenhire has now issued 32 challenges this season and has had 17 calls overturned.
