White Sox make four roster moves

Prior to today's game vs. Detroit, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contracts of left-handed pitcher Scott Snodgress and first baseman Andy Wilkins from Class AAA Charlotte, and also returned Moises Sierra from his injury rehabilitation assignment at Charlotte and reinstated the outfielder from the 15-day disabled list.

Snodgress, 24, takes the roster spot of right-hander Chris Bassitt, who was optioned to Charlotte following last night's game. Wilkins, 25, takes the roster spot of Adam Dunn, who was traded to Oakland prior to today's game, while Sierra replaces Alejandro De Aza, who was traded to Baltimore last night.

Snodgress is 6-8 with a 4.01 ERA (62 ER/139.0 IP) and 95 strikeouts in 29 games (21 starts) this season between Class AA Birmingham and Charlotte. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound Snodgress made all 21 of his starts with Birmingham but made all eight of his appearances with the Knights out of the bullpen. He has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 68.

Wilkins was named to the International League postseason All-Star Team after hitting .293 (144-491) with 38 doubles, 30 home runs, 85 RBI, 79 runs scored and an .896 OPS in 127 games with Charlotte this season. He leads the IL in homers, extra-base hits (69) and total bases (274), ranks second in RBI and slugging percentage (.558) and fourth in hits and runs scored.

Wilkins, 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, hit .379 (61-161) with 16 doubles, 14 home runs, 39 RBI, 37 runs scored and a 1.178 OPS in the second half and was named IL Player of the Month for July. He has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 38.

Sierra was placed on the disabled list on August 16 with a strained left oblique. He is batting .289 (33-114) with two home runs and seven RBI in 71 games with the Sox this season after being claimed off waivers from Toronto on May 3.

Bassitt, 25, made his major-league debut last night in game two of the doubleheader, allowing five runs on seven hits over 6.1 IP.
