White Sox at the plate: Former University of Georgia star Gordon Beckham struck out in his first two at-bats and then widened his club's lead with a two-run, fifth-inning single off Kris Medlen. Paul Konerko's two-out, first-inning single off Tommy Hanson gave the visitors an early advantage. Juan Pierre went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Braves on the mound: Hanson said that he felt strong while allowing two runs -- one earned -- and three hits over four innings. The 23-year-old right-hander will make his regular-season debut on Thursday against the Cubs. Medlen retired the first batter he faced and then issued a walk that was followed by three consecutive singles. He then retired five of the last six batters that he faced.Worth noting: Andruw Jones received some cheers while recording a hit in three at-bats. The former Braves center fielder easily tracked down a long fourth-inning fly ball hit by Jason Heyward, who ended his 0-for-3 performance with just his 10th strikeout of the exhibition season.
Up next: The Braves and White Sox will conclude their exhibition seasons on Saturday afternoon at Turner Field. Braves right-hander Tim Hudson and White Sox hurler John Danks will be making their final preparations leading up to their first regular-season starts. Both clubs will hold workouts at their respective home parks on Sunday and then begin the regular season on Monday.
