White Sox recall Carlos Sanchez from Class AAA Charlotte


Prior to today's game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox recalled infielder Carlos Sanchez from Class AAA Charlotte. He takes the roster spot of right-hander Andre Rienzo, who was optioned following yesterday's game.

Sanchez, 22, is hitting .291 (102-351) with 13 doubles, six triples, five home runs, 42 RBI, 48 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 89 games with Charlotte this season. He has appeared in 57 games at second base, 29 at shortstop and two at third. Sanchez, who entered the season as the third-youngest player in the International League, ranks among the league leaders in triples (T1st) and hits (4th). He owns a .332 average (79-238) vs. right-handers and .357 mark (15-42) with RISP/two outs.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound Sanchez entered the 2013 season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 3 Prospect, Best Hitter for Average and Best Defensive Infielder in the White Sox system. He appeared in 112 games in his first full season with the Knights. Sanchez was named the 2013 Venezuelan Winter League Rookie of the Year after playing with La Guaira.

Sanchez, a native of Maracay, Venezuela, has no major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 77. He was originally signed by the White Sox as an international free agent on May 6, 2009.

Sanchez is a career .283 hitter (502-1,774) with 74 doubles, 18 triples, eight home runs, 177 RBI, 258 runs scored and 70 stolen bases in 476 career games over six seasons (2009-14) in the White Sox system.
