CHICAGO -- Cubs manager Rick Renteria won a challenge in the top of the fifth inning but then lost another in the ninth against the White Sox on Monday night .

In the fifth, with Gordon Beckham at-bat, Alejandro De Aza broke for second and was initially called safe on the steal attempt. That brought Renteria out of the dugout.

Replays showed Darwin Barney tagged De Aza on the shoulder before De Aza reached the bag on an awkward head-first slide in which De Aza's arms were pointed toward his feet, and the call was overturned.

Renteria tried to make it two in a row in the bottom of the ninth with the game tied at 1. With Anthony Rizzo on first and one out, Starlin Castro hit a chopper deep into the hole at short. Alexei Ramirez made a sliding grab and fired to first to get Castro on the bang-bang play.

Renteria challenged, and reviews showed Adam Dunn's foot may have come off the base. But the call stood. Welington Castillo then struck out to send the game to extra innings.
