Prior to tonight's game vs. Tampa Bay, the Chicago White Sox placed third baseman Conor Gillaspie on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 22) with a left hand contusion and added right-handed pitcher Hector Noesi to the active roster.
Noesi, 27, was claimed off waivers from Texas on Friday after combining to go 0-0 with a 14.21 ERA (10 ER/6.1 IP) and six strikeouts in five relief appearances this season between Seattle and the Rangers.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Noesi opened the season on the Mariners roster before being traded to the Rangers on April 12 in exchange for cash considerations. He threw 4.1 scoreless IP over his first two games with Texas but gave up seven runs in 1.0 IP on April 20 vs. the White Sox and was designated for assignment on April 22.
Noesi, a native of Esperanza, Dominican Republic, has appeared in 69 games (21 starts) over parts of four major-league seasons with the Yankees (2011), Seattle (2012-14) and the Rangers, going 4-16 with a 5.81 ERA (127 ER/196.2 IP) and 140 strikeouts.
Noesi will wear uniform No. 48.
Gillaspie, 26, is batting .302 (19-63) with 12 RBI and eight runs scored in 16 games with the White Sox this season.
The White Sox 40-man roster increases to 40.
