White Sox Name Todd Steverson Hitting Coach

CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox have named Todd Steverson as the team's new hitting coach.

Steverson, 41, has spent the last 10 seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization, including 2012-13 as the organization's minor-league roving hitting instructor. He was the Athletics' first-base coach from 2009-10.

Steverson managed four seasons in the Oakland system from 2005-08, compiling a 297-264 record (.529) with Class A Stockton (2005-06), Class AA Midland (2007) and Class AAA Sacramento (2008).

He led Sacramento to an 83-61 record and won a Class AAA and Pacific Coast League championship with the River Cats, the franchise's second consecutive title. Steverson guided Stockton to a 78-62 mark and a postseason appearance in 2005.

Steverson began his coaching career as a hitting coach in the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1999-2003.

The Los Angeles native appeared in 31 major-league games with Detroit (1995) and San Diego (1996), hitting .256 (11-43) with two home runs and six RBI. He also played in 494 minor-league games over seven seasons from 1992-98.

Steverson was selected by Toronto in the first round (25th pick) of the 1992 draft out of Arizona State University. He is the cousin of former American League All-Star outfielder Ron LeFlore, who played for the White Sox in 1981-82.

Steverson replaces Jeff Manto, who was relieved of his duties on September 28, 2013.
