White Sox place Troncoso on DL

MINNEAPOLIS - Prior to tonight's game at Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Ramon Troncoso on the 15-day disabled list with Pericarditis (inflammation of the tissue around the heart) and purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Jake Petricka.

Petricka, 25, has gone 5-0 with a 1.81 ERA (11 ER/54.2 IP), one save and 58 strikeouts over 31 combined games (one start) between Charlotte and Class AA Birmingham. He has limited opponents to a .231 average (45-195) and owns a 9.55 strikeout per 9.0 IP mark this season between the two stops.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound Petricka (puh-TRICH-kuh) allowed just two earned runs with 17 strikeouts over 10 games (15.1 IP) with Charlotte. He limited right-handers to a .135 average (5-37).

Petricka, who has no major-league experience, entered the season rated by Baseball America as the No. 16 prospect in the White Sox organization. He will wear uniform No. 68.

The Northfield, Minn. native is 22-21 with a 3.98 ERA (156 ER/352.2 IP) and 316 strikeouts in 100 career games (60 starts) over four seasons in the White Sox system. He was originally selected in the second round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

Troncoso, 30, is 1-4 with a 5.25 ERA (14 ER/24.0 IP), one hold and 16 strikeouts in 25 relief appearances with the White Sox this season.
