Wise optimistic during rehab

CHICAGO -- The most painful feeling for Dewayne Wise to deal with as he was surrounded by media members on Thursday afternoon was handling the humorous jabs coming from manager Ozzie Guillen as he discussed the recovery process surrounding his injury.

"It's getting better," said a smiling Wise of his separated right shoulder, which was suffered while making a spectacular diving catch in Detroit on April 13. "I took some swings yesterday in the cage, and today I tried to put a little more into it. It's just really, really tight.

"I have to get it stretched out because balls away, I feel it a little bit when I try and turn on the ball. But today was a better day than yesterday."

Wise also took some fly balls and said he will be making next week's road trip with the team to Cleveland and Toronto. Wise actually could get into a hitting group during batting practice at some time during the four-game series in Toronto.

As for Wise's timetable to return, it still appears as if mid- to late-June stands as a possibility for the left-handed-hitting center fielder.

"Me, personally, I'm hoping three weeks, go out on a rehab assignment and playing a little bit. That's just my opinion," Wise said. "It depends on how I feel. But if that's the case, then we are looking out at early-June or up in that area."
