White Sox place Dayan Viciedo on 15-day disabled list

|

Prior to today's game vs. Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Dayan Viciedo on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 19) with a strained left oblique and recalled outfielder Blake Tekotte from Class AAA Charlotte.

Tekotte, 25, began the season on the Charlotte disabled list with a strained left hamstring.  The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder, who had been playing extended spring training games in Glendale, Ariz., was reinstated from the disabled list yesterday and made his season debut vs. Gwinnett, going 0-2 with a hit-by-pitch.

Tekotte, who bats left-handed and throws right, was acquired by the White Sox from San Diego on November 7, 2012 in exchange for pitcher Brandon Kloess.  He played in 30 games with the Padres in 2011-12, going 8-49 (.163) with one RBI.

Tekotte will wear uniform No. 18.

Viciedo suffered the oblique injury during his eighth-inning at-bat on Thursday at Toronto.  He is batting .229 (11-48) with two home runs and five RBI in 13 games this season but was 7-14 with three doubles in his last four games prior to the injury.
