White Sox place Angel Sanchez on 15-Day Disabled List

Prior to today's game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox placed infielder Angel Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to April 10) with a lower back strain, purchased the contract of infielder Tyler Greene from Class AAA Charlotte and designated left-handed pitcher Charlie Leesman for assignment.

Greene, 29, is hitting .265 (9-34) with no home runs and four RBI in eight games with Charlotte this season after agreeing to terms with the White Sox on a minor-league contract on April 4.

Greene, who will wear uniform No. 1, owns a career .224 (139-621) average with 16 home runs, 58 RBI and 28 stolen bases in 266 games over four major-league seasons with St. Louis (2009-12) and Houston (2012).  The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder has appeared at all four infield and all three outfield positions during his major-league career.

He split the 2012 campaign between the Cardinals and Astros, batting .230 (70-305) with a career-high 11 home runs and 30 RBI in 116 games.  Greene originally was selected by St. Louis in the first round (30th overall) of the 2005 draft.

Sanchez, 29, has appeared in one game with Chicago this season, going 0-2.

Leesman, 26, has not pitched this season while recovering from offseason surgery on his left knee.  He went 12-10 with a 2.47 ERA (37 ER/135.0 IP) in 26 starts with Charlotte in 2012.
