White sox announce Bo Jackson to throw ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day

The Chicago White Sox announced that Bo Jackson, former Sox outfielder and designated hitter and member of the 1993 American League West Division Champion White Sox, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day, Monday, April 1.

Bo Jackson, recently designated the "Greatest Athlete of All Time" by ESPN's Sports Science, played for the White Sox from 1991-93.  In 1993, Jackson dramatically returned from hip replacement surgery to homer in his first at-bat of the season vs. the New York Yankees at Comiskey Park.  On September 27 that same season, Jackson belted a three-run home run off of the Seattle Mariners at Comiskey Park to help the White Sox clinch the AL West Division title.

This season's Opening Day National Anthem will be performed by three members of a Chicago broadcast media family and lifelong Sox fans - the Ponce family.  The Studs Terkel Award-Winning Host of Chicago Tonight Phil Ponce, along with his sons Anthony (from NBC Chicago) and Dan (from WGN Television and the hit vocal group Straight No Chaser), will sing the Anthem prior to the opener at U.S. Cellular Field.

The White Sox will face Kansas City in the season opener at U.S. Cellular Field on Monday, April 1, 2013 at 3:10 p.m.  The game will be televised on Comcast SportsNet, broadcast on WSCR-AM 670 The Score and broadcast in Spanish on 97.5FM ESPN Deportes.
