Wise, White Sox agree to one-year contract
CHICAGO -- The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $700,000 contract with outfielder Dewayne Wise.

Wise, 34, combined to bat .259 (58-224) with career highs of eight home runs, 30 RBI, 31 runs scored and 19 stolen bases in 101 games with New York-AL and the White Sox.

The 6-foot, 200-pound Wise signed with Chicago as a free agent on August 3, hitting .258 (42-163) with five homers, 22 RBI, 20 runs scored and 12 steals in 45 games. He made 28 starts in center field, eight in left and two in right in his second stint with the club.

Wise, who bats and throws left-handed, is a career .228 (238-1,045) hitter with 30 home runs and 112 RBI in 546 games over parts of 10 major-league seasons with Toronto (2000, 2002, 2010-11), Atlanta (2004), Cincinnati (2006-07), the White Sox (2008-09, 2012), Florida (2011) and the Yankees (2012).

He preserved Mark Buehrle's perfect game on July 23, 2009 vs. Tampa Bay by making an over-the-wall catch to deny Gabe Kapler of a home run leading off the ninth inning.

The White Sox 40-man roster is at 40.
