MINNEAPOLIS -- The White Sox handled their business in a road game against a weaker team on Sunday. The Tigers did not.

Chicago used a sixth-run sixth and a strong start from Jake Peavy to cap a sweep of Minnesota with a 9-2 win. Meanwhile, Detroit dropped a 7-6 game to Cleveland on Lonnie Chisenhall's walk-off single. The results improved the White Sox lead in the American League Central to two games.

The White Sox, who will send Jose Quintana to the mound, can take a three-game lead with a win at home on Monday against Detroit in a makeup of Thursday's rainout.

"I hope the fans come out to [U.S. Cellular Field]," Peavy said. "I realize that tomorrow is not a scheduled game, but it's going to be a game with a lot of emotion."

Magic numbers
To calculate a team's magic number, take the number of games it has remaining and add one. Then subtract the difference in the number of losses between that team and its closest pursuer.

Tiebreaker scenarios
A tiebreaker game will be played to determine a division winner, even if the tied clubs are assured of participating in the postseason. If a division championship tiebreaker is necessary, the head-to-head record between the clubs will determine home-field advantage. If the head-to-head record is tied, then the division record will be the next tiebreaker.

If two clubs are tied for the two Wild Card berths, home-field advantage will be determined by the head-to-head record between the clubs. If the head-to-head record is tied, then the division record will be the next tiebreaker.
