White Sox recall Jhan Marinez from Class AAA Charlotte
Prior to tonight's game at Minnesota, the Chicago White Sox recalled right-handed pitcher Jhan Marinez ("Yahn ma-REEN-yez") from Class AAA Charlotte.
Marinez, 24, went 4-2 with a 2.86 ERA (20 ER/63.0 IP), four saves and 65 strikeouts in 40 relief appearances with Charlotte this season. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder ranked second among International League relievers in opponents average (.177) and fifth in strikeouts per 9.0 IP (9.29) and baserunners per 9.0 IP (10.43). He made nine consecutive scoreless appearances (11.0 IP) to end the regular season.
Marinez also was with the White Sox from July 13-16, throwing 1.2 scoreless IP in his only appearance on July 13 at Kansas City.
Marinez, who will wear uniform No. 57, was acquired from Miami on September 29, 2011 as part of the compensation for the Marlins agreeing to terms with manager Ozzie Guillen. He entered the season ranked by Baseball America as the No. 7 Prospect in the White Sox organization.
The White Sox active roster is at 35.
