GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The White Sox made eight roster moves following Monday's 7-6 loss to the Padres.
Right-handed pitchers Anthony Carter and Freddy Dolsi, infielder Eduardo Escobar and outfielder Stefan Gartrell were optioned to Triple-A Charlotte. Right-handed pitchers Kyle Cofield and Nate Jones were optioned to Double-A Birmingham, and right-handed pitchers Brandon Hynick and Miguel Socolovich were reassigned to Minor League camp.
With the moves, the White Sox have 18 pitchers, four catchers, 10 infielders and six outfielders in camp. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen pointed to the work from Gartrell, who had two home runs in Cactus League games and two more in "B" games, and Escobar as eye-opening over the past month.
"Gartrell, we have to send him down but this kid had a great Spring Training," Guillen said. "Escobar played better than what people thought. We are very excited about him, what he can do.
"When we talked to all of them, I said how hopefully it's about 25 players, but it's never going to happen. It's about 30 or 32 players and they have to be ready and prepared to help us in the summer."
