Crede named AL Player of the Week

White Sox third baseman Joe Crede was named the AL Player of the Week after leading Chicago to a 5-1 homestand.

Tuesday was certainly a good omen for him procuring the honor. He went 4-for-5 with four runs and two home runs as Chicago pounded St. Louis, 20-6, in an Interleague matchup of Central Division leaders.

Though it proved to be his lone hit in the game, Crede's grand slam against the Astros tied the game in the seventh inning on Saturday, setting the stage for Alex Cintron's game-winning single in the 10th. The victory was Chicago's ninth straight.

Crede went a combined 9-for-21 (.428) as the Sox swept St. Louis, then took two-of-three from Houston in a World Series rematch. He is batting .307 for the season.

Thus far in June he has six home runs and 21 RBIs, his highest total for each category in any month this season. The Sox hope he can keep up the torrid pace and repeat this week. Chicago travels to Pittsburgh for three games from Tuesday through Thursday before returning to the Windy City to wrap up Interleague Play and the season series with the rival Cubs at Wrigley Field over the weekend.
