Begins his seventh season as the White Sox first base coach and 22nd as a coach in the organization ... spent the 1998-2012 seasons in the player development system, including the last 12 as the minor-league outfield instructor ... Served as hitting coach at Advanced Rookie Bristol (1998), Class A Burlington (1999) and Class A Winston-Salem in 2000 ... helped Bristol and Burlington win league titles ... Spent the 1996 season as a player/coach with Regina in the independent Prairie League.


Played 11 seasons in the major leagues with the White Sox (1984-90), Mets (1990-92), Colorado (1993) and Yankees (1994) ... batted .249 (655-2,629) with 83 home runs, 278 RBI and 98 stolen bases in 1,058 games ... His best season came in 1990 when he hit .272 (100-367) with 12 home runs, 45 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 120 games with the White Sox (fi ve games) and Mets (115) ... Hit a career-high 15 home runs with the White Sox in 1988 ... played for the expansion Rockies in 1993, hitting .261 (76-291) with 14 homers and 40 RBI ... Made his major-league debut on 5/13/84 vs. Texas, singling off Charlie Hough in his first at-bat ... was selected by the Sox in the fi rst round (seventh overall) of the 1981 draft.


Has one son: Dash … graduated in 1981 from Woodward High School in Cincinnati, Ohio … father, Henry, managed the semipro Cincinnati Tigers baseball team, which featured future major-leaguer Dave Parker.
